Frequently Asked Questions

  • A linen protection sleeve provides minimal actual bite protection against a trained German Shepherd. The sleeve is designed for controlled training exercises where the dog is taught bite inhibition, not for protection against a full-pressure defensive bite. Do not rely on this for protection in uncontrolled situations.

  • Standard training sleeves fit forearms of 25-35cm circumference. They can be worn over a light long-sleeve shirt, but adding a thick winter jacket reduces range of motion significantly and the sleeve may not secure properly. Use in cold weather by wearing a sleeve extender or a purpose-built padded training coat underneath.

  • Training sleeves in this category use jute, linen, or canvas over foam padding. Linen is softer than jute — it is appropriate for puppies and dogs in early bite work where mouth full-pressure bites are not yet being trained. For advanced bite training with high-drive adult dogs, jute or leather sleeves are the standard.

  • This sleeve is not rated for IGP/Schutzhund competition-level bite work. IGP requires certified bite equipment that meets specific force and durability standards. Use this for foundational puppy bite work, tug-drive development, and early obedience bite exercises with a qualified trainer.

  • Training sleeves are typically symmetrical and can be used on either arm. The only consideration is the positioning of the handle loop (if present) — confirm which arm the handle favors if you have a dominant-arm preference during training.

  • Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth and mild disinfectant after each session. Do not machine wash — the padding loses shape and the outer fabric may shrink. For heavy use, hang to air dry in a ventilated space. Deep clean every 2-3 weeks with a scrub brush and enzyme-based pet cleaner to address saliva bacteria buildup.
