Based on the listed kit contents, Regular size suits paws up to approximately 5-6cm across (medium cats, small dogs up to 20 lbs). Plus Size accommodates paws 7-9cm across (large dogs up to 60 lbs). Great Dane or Mastiff paws at 10-12cm may overflow even the Plus Size pad — in that case, ink only the center paw structure and reposition for each toe print.
Fur smearing is the most common cause of blurry prints. For best results, trim fur between the pads and toes short before making the print. Press the paw firmly and straight down — do not rock it. Apply light even pressure for 3-5 seconds. Lifting the paw straight up (not sliding) prevents smear marks.
The ink is stated as safe and non-toxic for pets. A small amount of licking is not harmful. However, prevent the dog from licking the ink before the print is made — saliva on the pads dilutes the ink and results in a washed-out, faint print. Wipe pads dry before pressing. Rinse the paw with water after the print session.
Ink residue on the paws after printing can transfer to fabric surfaces. Keep the dog still for 1-2 minutes after making the print and wipe the paw clean immediately with a damp cloth before releasing them. The ink sets on the cardboard within 60 seconds. On smooth floors, residue is easily wiped away; on carpet, act quickly with a damp cloth.
The cardboard prints are not UV-stabilized or archival by default. Stored in an album or frame away from direct sunlight, expect prints to remain vivid for 5-10 years. Sun-exposed prints fade within 1-2 years. For long-term preservation, scan the print digitally within the first week and print a high-resolution copy on archival paper.
Newborn paws (1-3 days old) are very small and delicate — pressing firmly enough to make a clear print can cause discomfort. Wait until at least 3-4 weeks when the paw pads have firmed slightly. The paws are also more cooperative at a few weeks when the puppy or kitten is briefly awake and calm after feeding.
