A paw-cleaner cup needs enough room for the paw to enter without force, while still allowing its internal cleaning elements to make the contact intended by the design. Breed labels are too broad for that decision.
Measure the widest working paw
Measure the individual dog calmly and follow the product’s sizing method. A cleaner is not appropriate for an injured, painful or irritated paw without suitable veterinary guidance.
Have the dog stand normally on a sheet of paper. Mark the widest points of the front paw while it bears weight, then repeat for the other paws you plan to clean. Use the largest measurement rather than averaging.
1. Choose a calm moment
Avoid measuring immediately after exciting play or a stressful walk.
2. Use weight-bearing width
A lifted paw can appear narrower than it is when standing.
3. Mark both sides
Keep the pencil outside the fur and away from pads or nails.
4. Measure the span
Use a ruler across the two marks and record the unit.
5. Repeat
Check at least both front paws because size and fur can differ.
Compare more than the opening
The opening must admit the paw comfortably, but cup depth and handle control also matter. Long nails, thick fur and the dog’s willingness to lift a paw affect use even when a diameter appears adequate.
Match paw width to the stated cleaner opening
Is the opening comfortably larger?
Never squeeze or twist a paw through a tight rim.
Is the cup deep enough?
Compare the working depth with the area intended to be cleaned.
Can you stabilize it?
The handler should keep the cup upright without gripping the dog awkwardly.
Can parts be cleaned?
Read disassembly, rinsing and drying directions before first use.

Use the Paw Cleaner Washer for Dogs with Portable and Durable Effective Coat Care Shedding Control and Grooming Tool page to review available size information and components. Do not transfer measurements from another brand’s small, medium or large labels.
Dry-run without cleaning liquid
If instructions permit, introduce the empty cup and reward calm inspection before attempting a full cleaning routine. Stop if the dog resists or shows discomfort; fit includes behaviour and handling, not diameter alone.
